This Privacy Policy explains what information Goldmaps, operated by Goldmaps AI LLC (“Goldmaps,” “we,” “us”), collects when you use the Goldmaps mobile app, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the app you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, or, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the account identifier and email those services share with us.
- Onboarding answers. The short questions you answer when you set up the app (your experience, goals, gear, and similar), used to personalize your experience.
- Location. With your permission, your device location is used to show gold sites near you, provide directions, and tag your trip log entries. You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings.
- Your content. Trip log entries, notes, saved spots, and any photos you choose to add.
- Prospector conversations. When you use the AI Prospector, the questions you type, any photos you attach (for example, a rock you want identified), and — if you have granted location permission — your approximate location are sent to Anthropic, the AI provider that powers the Prospector, solely to generate a response. The app asks for your permission before your first Prospector message, and you can use the rest of the app without ever using the Prospector.
- Subscription information. If you subscribe, your purchase is processed by Apple. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but never your credit card number.
- Device & usage data. Basic technical and diagnostic information needed to run and improve the app.
How we use your information
- To provide the map, spot details, trip log, and AI Prospector features.
- To personalize recommendations and content.
- To manage your account and subscription.
- To keep the app secure, fix problems, and improve it.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the app, and only as needed to provide the service:
- Supabase — secure hosting of your account, content, and photos.
- Anthropic — receives the questions you type to the AI Prospector, any photos you attach, and your approximate location (if you granted location permission), and processes them solely to generate answers. Under our agreement with Anthropic, this data is not used to train Anthropic's AI models. Anthropic is contractually required to protect your data to the same standard described in this policy.
- Apple & Google — sign-in and, for Apple, subscription payments.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status.
- Mapbox — provides the map imagery.
- PostHog — receives basic in-app usage events (such as "app opened" or "paywall viewed") linked to your account ID, so we can understand how the app is used and improve it. This is product analytics only — no advertising identifiers and no tracking across other apps or websites.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.
Location data
Location access is optional and only used while you use the relevant features (finding nearby gold, directions, and tagging trips). We do not track your location in the background, and you can revoke access anytime in your device settings.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from inside the app (Profile → Delete account), which permanently removes your account, trips, photos, and saved spots from our systems.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to request a copy of it. You can exercise most of these directly in the app, or contact us using the details below. We honor applicable rights under laws such as the GDPR and CCPA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
Children
Goldmaps is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
